A solar power system at the Souk Sharq complex in Kuwait will be developed following an agreement between Alternative Energy Projects Company (AEPCo) and Kuwait-based Marasi United, a subsidiary of United Real Estate Company (URC).

The project will see the installation of 8.77MW of photovoltaic capacity spread across rooftop and carport structures at the busy commercial destination. Per the terms of the deal AEPCo will deliver the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services, as well as 15 years of operations and maintenance at the complex.

The deal supports New Kuwait Vision 2035, which targets 15% renewable energy in the national mix by 2030.

“This partnership with United Real Estate Company represents a promising model of strategic collaboration between Kuwait’s private sector institutions. The project is expected to avoid 189,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions over its operating life. By combining rooftop and carport arrays, the design uses existing built space rather than open land, which suits a dense commercial site,” remarked AEPCo CEO Dr Hassan Qasem.

He added that AEPCo expects the system to generate clean electricity equivalent to the annual consumption of about 110 homes.

The solar installation represents a significant step toward expanding renewable energy adoption in Kuwait’s commercial real estate sector. By integrating clean energy into a major retail and waterfront complex, the project is expected to reduce reliance on conventional electricity while supporting the country’s long-term sustainability goals, he concluded.
