A joint venture has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract for the mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works at the massive Doha Festival City development.

Hamad and Mohamad Al-Futtaim, the Qatari arm of the UAE’s Al-Futtaim Engineering, and Voltas Qatar clinched the deal worth excess of $137 million, it was announced.

The team is expected to complete operations in 2016, said Dawood Ozair, senior managing director of Al-Futtaim Engineering and Technologies.

Some of Hamad and Mohamad Al-Futtaim’s other high-profile MEP projects in Qatar include the Burj Al Marina in Lusail City, the enormous IKEA store in Doha Festival City, and the Heritage Quarter, which includes a mosque, prayer hall and heritage houses.

Doha Festival City is the largest mixed-use development currently under construction in the Middle East, and on completion will be Qatar’s largest retail and leisure destination. It will feature the Doha Festival City Mall, as well as a hotel and convention centre.

The retail development will have a gross leasable area of around 250,000sqm. This will comprise 550 outlets representing international and local brands, including 85 restaurants and cafes, VOX Cinemas and a snow park. It will feature around 8,000 parking spaces.

As a UAE-based firm, Al-Futtaim Engineering has more than 30 years of operations across the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.
