SSH, a regional master planning and design company, has been appointed by Kuwait’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Public Works to provide a study and design for a new children’s hospital on a design-award-construct basis.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of the 2017 Arab Health & Congress in Dubai.

At 300,00 sqm., Kuwait’s newest tertiary children’s hospital located in Al Shuwaikh, will be the largest hospital of its kind in the world. When completed it will have a capacity for 792 beds for comprehensive medical needs and treatment.

The design theme for the unique, futuristic hospital incorporates state-of-the-art technology and energy conservation. The Kuwait Children’s Hospital will be built using premium construction, material and equipment.

HKS, a US international architecture firm and leading engineering company, and WSP Parsons Brinkerhoff are also associated with the project.

The facility also includes diagnostic and treatment centres to complement all tertiary care services, along with other non-clinical support and public departments. Also considered are non-healthcare structures, functions and services, 2400 car parking spaces, a helipad to support emergency air transport services and a day care centre for the children of staff working at the facility. In addition, the complex will have five shelters for civil defence.
